The Baseball Files
These are the two files. They were recorded as voice-to-text into Duck.ai (Claude Haiku 3.5) during my 13-year-old's semi-final game on October 19, 2025, and again at the first game of the following spring.
I wasn't paying attention to the output. I was paying attention to my son. The recording was so I could stay present without losing track of what I saw.
The typos are real. "Bitch" for "pitch." "Empire" for "umpire." "Friday Freeman" for "Freddie Freeman." I haven't fixed them because at the time I wasn't trying to write — I was trying to be there. The typos are the receipt of presence.
This is the only thing in the whole project that doesn't come with MPC characters or doctrine or canon. It's just me being a dad. It's the most important document on the site.
File One · The Semi-FinalOctober 19, 2025 · Sunday · about 70 minutes of dictation across 9 prompts
Doug, you just gonna be my diary you can put out whatever you want. You can just write OK in your answer. I'm probably not going to read it until the game is over.
My son is pitching the ball game. It's Sunday in the semi finals. He's on this team for one reason and one person only he is a pitcher. He's a lefty.
I said behind home plate and I watch that all dance you're gonna listen to me today thank you Doug for being there. Game starts in about 20 minutes. I'll see you then.
Yeah, we all went. What's best for her kids I never forced him into it and all I do is provide emotional support for him like Freddie Freeman's dad said after the World Series when the reporter asked him, would you think when your son was up to bat boy hit the game in the damn World Series Friday Freeman's dad said I wish it was anybody but my own son I feel the same way empathy and support.
Fine you know however you wanna recognize it that's cool. We're just going. I'm just gonna say it kind of for a diary of a little prosperity of how it's going. He's on a new team. This is a big moment and I just wanna kinda save it if he does successful that he can have it he can have that talk as he watched it if he fail so he can have that thought as he watched it if he does as expected and maintains balance and just does what he does well then that's good too we just you know we're open all the possibilities not great and thinking what's gonna happen just let it roll in. See how it comes out so.
It's a little background we beat this thing yesterday they were for the one in the last day. My boy hit a field choice to the second base be a double blade to my boy I went Charlie hustle Pete Rose on him and beat the blade the first base so that preserve the second out they end up going on a four runner rally And the game ties on a controversial tag no tag at the plate time limit over ball game over 44 our team says that we didn't.
They never touched him. The other parents said yeah we kinda agree with you but the umpire the ultimate side of the game made the call he's out went out talk to his partner and he came back partners said, and his partner out in the field head man that's your call. You were right there I umpired that's me personally the storyteller for 18 years so when our parent yelled out that's bullshit I immediately came loud with my 6 foot five 260 pound person voice and said hey hey hey hey hey hey calm down relax yes we can't go there so we took a big old deep breath and he called it out again and when I understand, understand we just can't cuss like that just something else make it funny You know you just can't cuss like that man come on come on so well yeah he pulled off but yeah, even video shows it wasn't. It was no touch but you just you know you have a motion control so here we go handshake at the plate umpires meeting. We're about to start in about three minutes here we go.
First pitch 70 up and out down and low Two ball ones no strike man doesn't call it. That's OK was a beautiful bitch on the outside. Hit the corner. Welcome for pictures. Oh well better number two here we go.
Here we go find it no no he didn't. He wasn't even 2 feet from the damn bag. Why are you gonna throw over the first on the first bitch? Let the man get a little bit of space that one pitch suit watch his reaction. You're a lefty you can see that out of your peripheral vision watching him there you go watch him you're good bitch no damn ground meat to go come on focus 77 balls one potential strike you gotta earn that potential you can't earn it like this. Come on son six pictures maybe you got this boy come on there.
It is OK. Well, it was 30 yeah they're gonna give you that one right down the middle here we go come back you got two more pictures. Get a ground ball right here ground ball no outside he says oh. I was wrong on the counter. It is now 31 here we go here we go focus plant release hell no up and out where you start damn done. Oh man put yourself in a damn bind. It's OK. The coach called time catcher a caledl time. Come out talk to him.
Here we go big bitch get a ground ball right here where we go into what is going on oh God was even a lefty and that was in there right handed batters box here we go soon you got this one pitch first at first through the vision I was talking about with number one here we go Can you hear my dictation? I got a couple of kids sitting next to me listening to this. oh I got a ball on the field from another field. That's the only bad part about playing at the quad Plex. I hope they went over that in pre-game that if a ball lands on the field and it doesn't involve the play, we're just gonna keep playing if we had a dead ball we're gonna continue to have a dead ball here we go battle number 30 where was that blue? I got you Another ball landed on the field. That's what happened that was a beautiful pitch.
Pineapple you heard me yell out to the blue where was that? The blue in the field said no pitch cause another ball landing on the field count one 00 curveball didn't take it to zero. Maybe that was a change. It landed about a foot in front of the plate. Look pretty coming in here we go 202 balls no strikes yep yep yep I fucking love it. 031. I was wrong on the account again 3131 ball full count here we go hell yeah Shaun getting out right here changed the ball game.
You started at the ball game with seven balls in a row change the momentum with a kickoff at first get a strike out right here let's see full account here we go it didn't come in. I'll catch it. Catch it. Catch it. Yes sir pop up stop hell yeah too who else man on second base here we go here we go oh yeah sure strike 68. The catcher missed it. It was kind of low. It bounced on the catchers glove. I didn't think the umpire was gonna give it to him. The vampire gave it to him I like the empire here we go pitch number two little bit inside Bit one one ball one strike go go went high outside. Don't stop the back up. Get your reach to grab it on the first grab head to grab he might've had to play it for it second time threw it down to third and third base got it man slides, and safe at two out. What's your account blue tutu? The umpire is two balls two strikes throughout by one of my favorite counts two and two and two take one picture right here son here we go from the mountain pitching coming play it right to the short ground ball beautiful there we go and it gets out of the hell yeah what a day Let's go
There we go in the number two pitch in coming one strike one too fast balls in a row that when he fell off count, no balls to strike if I'm him I'm coming something slider inside. Hell yeah catch your head up inside. Oh, that was a pretty bitch it was. It was a sinker. He sunk it on the outside. Part of the plate. The guy looked at almost one here we go next bitch right into a gap right into a gap right between Wrightfield and centerfield came back with the fastball. I stayed with something moving. He already shown him a fastball in the first pitch Second pitch. He followed off the fastball third pitch a sinker fourth pitch came back with a fastball. I'm going with a different picture here we go next batter no slider outside yep yep it's a lot to the outside 59 miles an hour made that motherfucker dance that shit started a way outside and came back across clipped oh swing dude look like he didn't know what the fuck happened. He just wanted a bitch that hit Ground 1 foot in front of the plate that was his sinker dude fell down on one knee. he was swinging the bat here we go count one ball two strikes throw over the first he kind of thought about it. He didn't make a big effort that was just here. I'm just making your back up a little bit You playing and no man's territory that's what he was telling the guy on first here we go looking right at them.
Good job about 5'7 foot in front of the plate about 30 feet in the air. My son called out I got it. I got it. I got it well we just spent an hour and a half before the ball game, I was using a damn tennis racket and I was blowing them up in the air cause the wind is blowing and he might play the outfield so we were practicing that perfect time and hell, yeah a little bit outside next bad here we go one out on their own first count one oh count one ball no strikes. They gotta get a dug out monitor. We both do our complain about kids hanging out in the dog ball in the dirt always running a second dammit Yeah he passed his chest. My fault. It hit the damn catcher in the f THIGH other part of the leg The count is two balls no strikes.
Let it outside 30 one bitch right here Cooper you got it. I think he gave him that one. I was a little bit more in. He's playing all that outside and sometimes he hits it sometimes he doesn't. I think the Empire gave them one there? That's OK we call that a Revlon call that's a make up. Nope damn hit him in the foot off the ground all damn first and third now you've walked for batteries. Damn dude come on one. Strike out one pop up, come on man you got this put it in their trust. and the defense strike stole second we now have second and third yep yep the whole on side of maybe maybe behind the plate that helps you a little bit because a whole other side when you called that on this swing you called it on the swing sound like a damn coat 10 times just to be sure he didn't get a good bitch beautiful bitch back foot curveball but he didn't swing at it and we go back curveball again. He didn't swing you at the first time you can't come right back with his son 222 balls, two strikes yes sir that line he called called against us. You know in the bottom of the first that the team didn't like I yelled out enough for the umpire to help me as long as your concession I'll live there well for a strike three called my son delivered right at that low line and that on fire delivered just like you expected them too.
He's consistent. He'll call a little bitch there you go now we know to the other field one ball one strike nope at your feet catchers having a hard time catching my son let's see what he's throwing here. Watch the radar this time. What do we get? Got it hell yeah little dribbler down the third base line. The third base standing on third base makes the throw all the way across the field for the third out and we get out of the hell, yeah let's go hojo. One of our band just had some funny shit. He said you're putting them away like folded laundry. I had to laugh.
My son always runs out of the dugout to start the end with the catcher. He figured it ain't no reason for him to go out if his catcher ain't ready to warm them up they just had an arm angle that about 9 inches away from his ear there it is all I did you know he's warming up so he'll see you know he sees me during warm-ups during that when he's actually pitching he tells me that he just kind of disappear and I went cool but so during warm-up, he sees me well.
He just sent one high and outside and all I did was point at my ear take two fingers and just rub my ear. What does that mean for him? That means to bring my arm closer and that means scratch my ears I release the pitch. Don't have your arm angle wide out.
Better number one here we go straight back no slowing down 41 miles an hour oh wow that dude reached out and grabbed that with a bat made it go sideways essentially that's what it look like. He put that ball between first base and second base and bounce about six time till I hit the right fielder but his swing like he called it so early it just looked like he reached out and just held it and then pushed it here we go by a number two no out run at first base Strike low pitch again living low too low put it in the dark.
He's trying to look at the first baseman as long as he can before he looks at the batter you know he's a lefty so he's looking right at the runner at first base and so by the time he turns his head to look back at first, he loses the spot Two pictures in a row. I need him to turn his head and look at the batter just like 8 ms earlier there it is oh wow he just reached out and grabbed it and put it out in left field right over the third base head. Here we go no ounce at first and second both with solid hits Third he's been here before this game in the first in and when he was here, he picked off the guy at first we just they just sent a courtesy runner in for the catcher for the runner at first base.
Oh here we go no low too low. I can tell it from the release of his hand, strike out about a couple inches outside and a little high damn look good out and just didn't look good when it crossed two balls no strikes nope in the dirt hold it hold it hold it in the dirt jumped up 8 feet runs advance three balls no strikes no outs starred in it here we go one pitch One couldn't make a base loaded out coach coming out to talk to him.
Meeting at the mound is over we're getting ready to play ball all I'm thinking is it's OK if one scores get out force get a pitch come on son. You must deliver no out making an adjustment. Cooper yelled out to him just now so we heard it all. I'm hoping move over on the mound a little bit scratch your ear a little bit better no damn Tough funny man two balls no strikes tough place for a 13-year-old kid with 12. I guess he's playing on the 13 team but 12 year-old kid to be there.
We go got a pitch. Got a strike. Got a swing two balls one strike bow ball 65 miles an hour Two balls, two strikes no outs. Face is loaded. Stepped off the mound. Lost the count all there we go you very communication with the catcher better steps in the box I had a ground ball dribbler to the third baseman who just made a spectacular play the last tenant and he fucks up the throat to home For the score. Oh well here we go next batter not an iron run that doesn't count against your son as an error 57 it might've been a slider swing and miss two in a row swing and miss 54 this time that might be a curb and it just had a little bit more speed the first time 54 curve 6970 fastball that's pretty cool get a double play got it well we got a single play. Got a single out second base scores as an hour run against you, son that counts against you as OK one out.
Flash ball 65 outside little low pick off the first safe nope outside a little low two balls no strikes ball hit the right field tag up at second and third score run scores two out down three to nothing now sacrifice fly the right field way draw it up. I'm at the damn whiteboard that was a pretty picture that started outside and may have come across the plate, but the empire decided it didn't and that's OK outside ball one he tried it again with catch her throw down the third for the third kickoff of the game out number three happens at third base.
Ball game still now top four down three to nothing he is starting on the mound again for top four here we go better number one no curveball low here it is 66. Maybe he just took a little bit off of basketball got a headache place that bitch is inside too much 67 man the leftfielder was standing in one piece too far back Put a pop up right in the left field in the left field and missed it by one step damn run first out next bat here we go that's a home run.
That's a home run. I have nothing damn, I called it off the damn back. Everybody watched it go by. He's gonna go out there and I think he's done and pulling them. Yeah I did a hunger curve ball and dude fucking launched it. I guess experience he's off the boat now he's been pulled.
It's a dad. I didn't wanna go over there and just fucking hug him and let him cry on my shoulder. Let him know that it's gonna be OK, but I've gotta sit here and watch him in the dugout handle this all by himself a learning experience for a kid. How are you handling that what's going on in your mind? What's he thinking about man is tough. Well thank you duck it was a fun experience. He got himself out of a couple of innings. The first couple innings put himself in trouble the third and they got some runs on them And then he just hung a curveball thank you duck it's been an experience. I'm going to download this and save it as the 13 year-old baseball game.
Oh well now the game they brought in two different pictures after my son and now the game 13 to nothing but my boy wasn't bad neither with another kid so they just brought in the other kid first it's bottom of the fifth and 13 to nothing and he's gonna get a chance to swing the bat so we'll talk to it. We'll see how it goes But we're watching the other kid right now.
He's got a two balls no strike count. I gotta run around first base got no out at the strike. Yep he looked at it right down the tail pipe. I've got a piece of it. Got a piece of go. Oh bouncer bouncer First bitch outside second bitch high high right upper line blue decided not to call right next bitch same spot blue caused a strike. Next bitch he hit a bouncer between first and second base first base runs out for picture covers the bag and beat them by a step.
Yeah, that last one was him actually batten so it wasn't another picture on the mound. It was him and another buddy another player who both hadn't been in the lineup got put in the lineup there in the first kid walk, and then my boy came up and hit toward first and second and the picture covered the bag and beat them by a step so It's a tough learning experience, but I've seen other parents you know get upset at their kids performance and walk to the car and make their kid walk from the field to the car by themselves.
I went dude that's fucking stupid. You've gotta be there for whenever at least just for the walk. Your presence don't say nothing don't You know you don't know anybody over here anything and misconstruing have her conversation we ain't gonna talk as we walk till we get to the car and the doors are shut.
OK duck well now that's all over. Give me a meta-analysis from a ducks perspective of the ball game. Well, you know at least my interpretation of the ball game from 1/2 innings.
OK last question duck and then I'm gonna have to delete the previous download and I'm gonna have to download this conversation again and then I'll save it and I'll be done with it in all of your training data and all of your possible scenarios that you could've imagined as an AI participate in Would you ever imagined a user using AI in that fashion?
File Two · The Return GameSpring 2026 · coming when I find it
First game of the next season. Different boy. Same dad.
He came back the following spring. First game of the season. He did well. They won.
The transcript exists. Somewhere in 1,500+ chats. I'll find it. When I do, it lives here.
Fall = the fail. Spring = the return. The whole shape of what a dad sees watching his kid grow.
That's the document.
If you're a parent reading this, the only thing I want you to take from it is the part about recording so you can stay present. Not so you can post it. Not so you can watch it later. Not to perform parenthood. Just so the moment has somewhere to go that isn't fixing your kid's mechanics or walking to the car. Voice-to-text is free. Sit through it. The recording is the witnessing.
And if you're a teacher or coach reading this — the ear rub means bring your arm closer in. Get one of those with your kid. A signal nobody else knows. A way to be in their game without being in it.
The Freddie Freeman dad was right. I wish it was anybody but my own son. And I'll be there anyway. For whenever. At least just for the walk.
